At wits end! No boot.

Corsair 350D Case
5 x BitFenix Spectre Pro 120mm fans

ASUS Maximus Vii Gene motherboard
Intel i7 4790k 4GHz CPU
Corsair H100i CPU hybrid cooler

Corsair AX860 PSU
8GB (4GB x 2) G.Skill 2133MHz RAM
250GB Samsung SSD
240GB OCZ SSD

1TB Seagate HDD
ASUS Nvidia GTX 780

 

None of these parts have ever been overclocked.

 

Built this PC myself brand new about 5 years ago and have never, ever had an issue with it.  Until now.......

Heads up before we go any further- it's difficult to explain as there's been different outcomes through troubleshooting but here goes...

 

The PC stopped firing up.  Every time I press the power button, the mobo displays error code "00" and switches back off within less than 1 second.  During this short attempt at booting, all lights are on and the fans start to spin.

 

Below is what I've tried.. perhaps not in the exact order as it happened but I'm recalling all of this from memory.

 

Removed the GPU- same issue

Kept GPU removed with HDMI connected from the mobo to monitor.

Removed 1 x RAM stick- PC boots up to error code 65 but no signal on the display.  After a short period (approx. 10 seconds)- PC powers itself off.

Changed the slot the second stick was in- Code 00 and back to square 1.

Tried every single variation of RAM in different slots, single and dual- Code "00".  Not booting.

Arranged the RAM in the order I last got code 65- now getting code 00.

Put the 2 x RAM sticks back into their original slots.

 

Disconnected all hard drives (HDD & SSDs)- code 65.  Still no signal on the display.

Connected the HDD (one without the OS) and booted- signal on the display and booted into the BIOS.  YES!

Ran through settings- temps looking good, all connected hardware recognised.  Powered it off and connected only the SSD with the OS.

PC boots into Windows but wasn't getting my hopes up- I have a feeling something still isn't quite right.

Restarted the PC through Windows.  No boot.  Code 00.

 

Repeated all of the above processes any if anything it's getting worse... each time I get 00 and it powers off, I try to switch it back on.  Nothing.

Have to switch off the PSU, back on and then try boot again... To get 00.

 

It's worth noting that in between each and every step, I was clearing the CMOS and reseated it numerous times.

 

I had my suspicions about the motherboard being fried but for it to give inconsistent results, I think I might be wrong.

The only thing I haven't tried is removing the CPU, cleaning off old paste, reapplying and reseating... but I honestly don't suspect that to be the problem.

 

Sorry for the lengthy post.  Just need to know if I'm being stupid or if this is genuinely a head scratcher.....

Can you confirm where you found that info?  Code 00 from what I seen wasn't used to identify anything.

AFAIK 00 means a dead CPU/Mobo/PSU 

Check your QLEDs and see if there flashing(near 24 pin power). Check your manual to see what if corresponds with.

Thanks for the info!  Will see if I can get my hands on another PSU to test.. Super frustrating.  The QLEDs is another thing that was inconsistent... sometimes it'd flash the RAM LED red.  Sometimes the HDD light yellow.  Sometimes the CPU LED red.
