Question about PC performance

mwmatthew10

This is my first post sorry if it is in the wrong area please let me know and I'll move it or a forum mod can move it or however it works.

My PC is underperforming and wildly varying on benchmarks

Benchmark 1: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/20948963

Benchmark 2: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/20949289

Benchmark 3: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/20950529

I wonder if this could be due to my power supply as it only seems to start slowing down when the load builds up, I have a cheap 500W Xilence PSU

Speccy report for my PC: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/RbMPPaqowV03ifC6m1WFhcM

Thank you for any help, and if anything might need replacing please recommend parts that are affordable and decent enough quality, thanks.

Looks like pretty decent performance to me.. Keeping in mind Userbenchmark just stuffs all tests of a specific GPU, CPU and HDD into 1 list, not keeping in mind some people are running background programs or are overclocking.. etc.

If you want to know if you have good performance, run specific component benchmark and compare scores with similar components:

GPU: 3DMark (demo on Steam works fine)

CPU: Cinebench (R15 has the most entries still): https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/62476-post-your-cinebench-r2015r1152003-scores-over-1000-submissions/

HDD: CryslalDiskMark

The only component that is varying significantly is your CPU. Check your temperatures and monitor the frequencies under load. If it's not reaching full boost, then you are throttling due to thermals or power.

Edit: Just noticed the abnormally high background CPU usage. This will most likely explain all of the variance.

I checked temps during one of the benchmarks and the temps did not exceed 50C

My PC has been underperforming in everyday usage too, often idling at around 80-90% with little background tasks running, its affecting my ability to play VR and I'm wondering whether i may need a new PSU

your PSU has nothing to do with it for sure, if your PSU is not powerfull enough you will not have performance issues you will have stability issues with random restarts and bluescreens.

Hi, my GPU is fine, however my CPU is passing r15 at 510 which is under the performance that it should be running at, any idea why? And do you know how I coudl go about lowering my background CPU usage?

Are you sure that is underperforming?

But the easiest way to go about closing background tasks is just going into the system tray and disabling the non-necessary stuff. Then you can disable Windows Defender too, if you are comfortable with that..

Actually, the Cinebench thread I linked has a great video on how to achieve the highest scores possible.

But for normal every day usage, you should be fine with just closing background tasks.

Of course upgrading to a second hand Ryzen 7 1700(x), Ryzen 5 2600, etc. would be a great idea too, but maybe not exactly required for decent performance.

Is any real-world task going slowly actually, or are you just looking at these benchmarks?
