Hey!

I just got a new pc and I wanted to install an m.2 ssd AND a wd hard drive. Everything is fine with the m.2 but for the hard drive idk why my pc doesn't recognize it!

I got a Asus prime x570-p motherboard and a 1tb m.2 ssd from western digital.

Can you guys help me?

In windows? You have to go to disk management and initialize it.

Right click on the black bar> set volume

And follow instructions

Do you hear the hard drive spin up while booting? Does the HDD show up in your BIOS?

What is the make and model of the WD drive? Is it connected via any sort of adapter? Do you have data AND power connected to it? What slot did you use for the WD, if standard SATA vs the M.2 slot used? On some boards, using a SATA M.2 drive will disable SATA ports as it shares the bandwidth. From here, also make sure you have the latest BIOS. My Asus Prime Z390-A didn't recognize my 1TB Samsung 860 Evo in Windows until I did this. It was seen fine during boot, but not in the BIOS once past the initial splash, nor within Windows.

Slottr: So I've tried pluging the sata cable on all the sata port of my mother board

Minibois: Yes, I ear it spin

You can @ people to ping them so they guaranteed see your replies. Like this: @Slottr and @minibois, see above.

So yes I know it is disableing ports but i don't know wich one to conect to

There's nothing in the manual that says it should be disabling ports, not from what I could find.

Manual here: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/PRIME_X570-P/E15650_PRIME_X570-P_UM_WEB_V2.pdf

  • Page: ix
    • No reference to ports being disabled based on M.2 usage in the Storage list
  • Page: xi
    • No reference to ports being disabled based on M.2 usage in the Internal I/O Ports list
  • Page: 1-12
    • No reference to ports being disabled when showing all SATA ports, also, use here to see what port is numbered what

So, I don't see any reason a SATA port should be off based on the manual. I know my Z390 manual tells me which ports are off if I use a certain M.2 slot, so I imagine Asus would also do that with this board.

It's connected to power and sata; it's a WD Blue 2tb and it isnt connected via an adaptater

How many other things are powered by SATA in the system, that are on the same SATA power line coming from the PSU?

One the hard drive; my m.2 is on the motherboard

That's odd. I had an issue with pulling too much on the +12V rail which let the drive sort start, but not work. Have you confirmed with anything else that the drive itself is fine? Have you tried any of the other SATA ports? Have you confirmed you're on the latest BIOS/SATA drivers on the system? What other trouble-shooting have you done thus far yourself?

The only thing I haven't done is the BYOS update

Go do it, if you're not on the latest. https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/PRIME-X570-P/HelpDesk_BIOS/

The only thing I could think off at this point is possibly broken a broken SATA data port (on your board or HDD).

But by all means, try a BIOS update, maybe it can fix it.

Just double check the SATA data cable goes to the motherboard correctly too.

Check the sata cable if its crimped or damaged somewhere, if thats not the case check if it shows up in the motherboards bios, if it shows up in the bios and youre not too savy with microsofts disk manager download something from the internet to format the drive and assign it
