I just want to ask question, not brag or anything.

I manage to save some extra some money and decided to build a new rig.

I just want to ask if this is good, compatible or future proof:

I9 9900k

Rtx 2080ti msi gaming trio

Asus prime z390-a

G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4

Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB 850W

Nzxt kraken x-62

My old rig:

I5 6500

Msi Gtx 1070 founder's edition

MSI Z170A GAMING M5 LGA 1151 Intel Z170

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)

Thermaltake Smart Series 500W

Uphere 5v cpu cooler with dual 120mm

You don't need an 850W power supply, a good 650w unit will do

And just a personal thing for me, but I would get an air cooler. They're more reliable and cheaper.

He's at least gone for the NZXT X62, which while sort of stupid expensive but is a pretty good AIO

It is good, I see no compatibility issues, and while nothing is future proof, if your i5-6500 has done well for you this far, and with a GTX 1070, this system should last you quite a while.

Thanks. Yeah it serve me really well

I have the budget now and my friend is also willing to buy my old rig.

The 850 watt and the kraken is on sale right now that's why I went for it. I have an air cooler but I don't know if it will do justice for i9 9900k because most of the pc building guides on youtube, majority of them are using AIO.

I still have some time to cancel my orders, should I stick with it or cancel it?

Thanks

Just stick with it if you've already put the order in, as the only 2 air coolers who can truly cool that 9900K is either the Noctua D15 or the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4.

The NZXT X62 while expensive is quite good at what it does and should cool your 9900K just fine.

Why not to do AMD? Because they're if you're worried about future-proofing at least x570 has PCI Gen 4 support.

After all the 3700X is very close to the 9900K in terms of gaming and undercuts it in terms of cost per core/thread.

I say if you want future proofing right now AMD is the better choice on that front

I appreciate the reply, it's just i9 9900k is expensive and I wanna make sure that it will last long for me. Might as well get the nzxt x62

It's on sale right now for 185 cad from 225 cad.

I only have basic knowledge when it comes to computer parts and this is gonna be my 3rd build since when I was in college so that's why I only intend to stick to Intel. But maybe in the future

There is nothing wrong with AMD dude, the Ryzen series is so far great quality and performance for the money.

I mean its up to you yes but you mentioned the high cost of the 9900K.

I am not a AMD fanboy but the Ryzen series has been rather good, sure there have been hiccups but that comes with any new architecture.

I mean look at it this way the 9900K is $639.99 CAD while the Ryzen 7 3700X is $429.99 CAD and the 3700X undercuts the 9900K in every way possible.

Sure in gaming the 9900K is better but its only a small fraction better and not enough to justify the $640 CAD price point.

And honestly in the longevity department again on the 9900K you still only have PCIE Gen 3, the 3700X paired with a X570 motherboard will be more valuable in the long run with PCIE gen 4.

if you are looking for the best in gaming (seems so from your parts) that will last for some years, that part list should do it.

El Zoido:  9900k + RTX 4090 / 32 gb 3600mHz RAM / z390 Aorus Master

The Box:  3900x + RTX 3080 /  32 gb 3000mHz RAM / B550 MSI mortar
