Hey guys,

I am a researcher who is working with Sequence data (RNA, DNA etc.)

Recently decided to update the old workstation i have been using to conduct data analysis from a 4 core Xeon W series to a Ryzen 3900x, but i have some concerns regarding this as i already have 16*4 DDR4 ECC memory RDIMM sticks which i hope to carry over to the new build that i'm planning. But i cant find if any of the X570 boards support RDIMM, Hope you guys here can give me some definite answer's.

Thank you

Registered memory is not supported on socket AM4.

If you absolutely need registered, you can buy EPYC processors and socket SP3 motherboards, and those will support Registered memory.

Here's for example motherboards: https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100007629 601303090&Order=PRICE

And here's AMD Epyc CPUs (with some Ryzen in the mix, cause search sucks) : https://amzn.to/2OxIKmy

But it would probably be worth waiting for the next generation of EPYC

However, it would be cheaper to just suck it up and go with Threadripper... they're gonna release new Threadripper CPUs in the next 1-2 months and you have 8 memory slots to put memory in.

The Threadripper + memory will be cheaper than Epyc processors.

Rome has been out for quite some time.

You can get Epyc 7002 series for quite a decent price.

Acrually Epyc isnt that far from threadripper in terms of pricing.

If you want Rdimm support it seems you need to head for the Epyc plattform.

Do you need ECC memmory?

Yes,

ECC is important as I'm working with large quantities of sequence data which is also needed to be published.

Well then you need to step up to Epyc to get registered dimm support.

Ryzen and threadripper can do unregistered dimms.

Epyc isnt that expencive. It theb comes down to how much you are spending
