Need a little help

I was helping my little brother with his maths homework and i came across a seemingly easy question, but for some reason it completely stumped me. Its a basic question but i have completely forgotten how to approach the question as its been a long time since i have done this kind of stuff.

a) 5 is 13c, 6 is 16c, 7 is 19c

b) S*3-2

c)45*3=135;135-2=133

How I first solved it...
C = (S-1) * 3 + 1
C = (45-1) * 3 + 1 = 133

A simpler way of writing it...
C = S * 3 - 2
C = 45 * 3 - 2 = 133

It's 3:40am so I can't be bothered explaining it, but hopefully you can work back.
