Looking for a laptop

Hello everyone,

 

First off, let's get this out of the way : I live in Canada, and I have a budget of about 1000-1200$.

I'm looking for a new laptop for :

 

- Programming (nothing particular, but good processing power would be great for faster compiling)

- Web browsing

- General boring stuff (ex: Microsoft Office)

 

This is what I want : 

 

- Light-weight

- Good battery power (at least 5+hours)

- 15'' display if possible, but willing to settle for 13'' if the price difference is unjustified

 

I don't have any particular preference in terms of brand, look, etc.

I'd like a Mac, it's pretty, nice display, simple OS that I like to use, but I'd be more than happy with a 'regular' laptop running Windows.

 

Not for gaming at all, I already have a desktop for that.

Oh and by the way, not a chromebook. Nothing against them, but I just can't be in a wireless area all the time.

Macbook Air with Windows installed? Its great for the price if you can get it with the 15% student discount.

Macbook Air with Windows installed? Its great for the price if you can get it with the 15% student discount.

I wouldn't install Windows on it if I was to get a Mac, I like the OS

Looking beast, but do I really need that lol? Dedicated GPU and all, for programming and web browsing .. ^^ (no gaming whatsoever)

I say Mac. I have windows on mine also but use it like maybe once a week just to keep it updated

Lenovo Y500p, It has the power you need to run any program. Although, a macbook air to bring around for porgramming is good too. Makes me wish the screen wasn't broken on mine.
