ASUS RX 470 Mining Abnormal Display

Hello. I recently purchased a 2nd-hand Asus Expedition RX 470 Mining for 70$. I didn't think twice 'cause 2nd-hand RX 570s are around 100$ in my area. It has only a DVI output and my Old Monitor on the other hand only has a VGA port so I immediately bought a VGA to DVI adapter. When I plug it, it runs fine for a few seconds until the Resolution automatically changes and it immediately transition to a Abnormal display or a Garbage display (that's what my friend says it is). I first suspects my adapter but when I plug it on my motherboard and on my old R7 240 gpu both runs fine, only that in my R7 240 GPU I noticed that the display gets darker (VGA to DVI w/ adapter) e.g. Blind Areas in League of Legends are so much darker that you can't see the terrains, compared to having no adapter (VGA to VGA). Then after that, I immediately returns the RX 470 from where I bought it to hope for a replacement but when they plug it, Everything runs fine, and they even benchmarked it without having any problems at all. My question is: Is the adapter really the main problem and the GPU works on the store because they plug it on a DVI to DVI port? And will it run if a bought a Monitor and plug it with a DVI port? Lastly, I suspect this southbridge touching my GPU a little bit. I really don't have any idea to do at the moment so I'm looking for help.

I would probably blame the DVI-D to VGA adapter, won't know until you try DVI or DVI to HDMI or Display Port

As normally you might have DVI-I with the extra 4 pins, and the extra pins are purely for analog signals like for VGA.

 

You could also just run your 2nd graphics card as your primary video output device, and use the RX 470 for rendering games and the like, as linus did in that one mining GPU video.

My monitor really is an old one and it has only a VGA port. I want to first confirm it it's the adapter before buying a new Monitor with a DVI port. And my DVI I think is a DVI-D one, the one with only a flat head or a +1 not the one with the extra 4 pins. And Yes I have also thought of that video, but the problem is my motherboard only has 1 pci-e slot so I really can't do that.

Before you try a new monitor you might want a DVI to HDMI adapter, then just test the PC on any TV to see if the GPU actually works fine.
