is 1600 overkill?

So browsing sites like ebay I found a 1600w mining psu. Is it worth it to buy it? Even if I'm only using it in my normal pc

No, it's probably a terrible deal being honest.

 

Buy a proper power supply for your computer.

Typically, those "mining" PSUs are horribly made.

Totally fake.  Wouldn't use it to charge a phone, never mind power a PC.

It's impossible to tell anything about a PSU if you haven't told us what PSU it is :):) :))))

Do you really need that much power?

 

Do you have three GPUs?

 

And remember:  If the PSU is missing cables, you have to get cables MADE FOR THAT PSU.   That PSU is 8 years old and the company is out of business.  How will you get cables for it?

As a fan of doing this for no reason, not even I would.

Just sounds like a setup for potentially massive failure.

A bad PSU experiment can damage much more than just the PSU.

Found cables for the 800w version. Aren't they basically the same

There was no ZX 800.  

 

If they're cables for the OCZ EliteXstream 800W, they're not going to work.

I haven't. I went for a 850w fully modular one. I love the little "Please don't buy that psu"
