Hi,

I want to upgrade one of my systems. Goal is to increase the transfer speeds between my disks.

I move/copy/paste A LOT of files all day, for example one transfer may include 100,000 small files and i lose so much time by just waiting.

I want also to upgrade Motherboard/Ram/CPU. What do you suggest? Intel or Ryzen? The main focus is to have fast file transfers so i can minimize the waiting times. Which parts should i combine to achieve that?

thanks

I recommend either Ryzen 7 3700 or 3700x, which are both bery good performance that arent as expensive as a Ryzen 9. Im not sure what your current specs are but this processor would be great for something like a 2070 or 2080 GPU. I dont personally prefer AMD Gpu's. If you are looking to improve speed, go for M.2 drives and higher count Mhz Ram (Preferably Corsair or Trident Z). While m.2s are more expensive they are much faster and highly worth the cost

depends on where you are moving them.

and if you are using SSDs.

Ryzen 3k can do 3 fullspeed nvme m.2 drives while having a GPU running at 8x.  or 4 fullspeed if you run the GPU using Chipsetlanes.

but since you are doing a lot of writing, you would probably look at samsung Pro drives. and at that point you can ignore PCIe 4.0 and perhaps just aim for Threadripper.

Well if you're into video creation get atleast a ryzen 3700x. So atleast something relatively new with 8 cores

Not into video creation. Programming mainly and coordination :P (moving folders/installations around, a lot of localhost, comparing files, upgrade installations and move them to a new disk, downloading/uploading files from server etc..)

With these specs I only think you need to change your drives, CPU, and GPU. YOu have a very good Mobo and the cooler definetley could be switched out for a newer AIO maybe the H110i. Everythinge else is pretty good.

Ill buy the parts from Germany (mindfactory.de or from geizhals they are pretty cheap)

Budget for cpu, mobo, disks, ram would be around 800euro

Ok, I can work with that.
for cpu I’d recommend a Ryzen 7 3700x

16GBs of the cheapest 3600MHz RAM you can find

for motherboard, I’d go for a Gigabyte X570 Gaming X or an Asus X570 TUF

Drives is a little tricky in your situation, as fast M.2 NVME drives are not cheap. Look around for Sabrent Rockets (if they have those in your area) or Samsung 970 Pros (although these are expensive). The advantage of going with the X570 chipset is the ability to use PCIE Gen4 drives. Be on the lookout for good deals on these as pricing for them seems to be on par with the nicer Samsung drives.

I got a ps5 and a pc pretty ballin

Ryzen 5 3600. 190€

B450 Tomahawk 100€

16GB DDR4 corsair vengeance 80€

So now you have 430€ left for drives.

As m.2 drive I'd say get a samsung nvme ssd. As mobo you could also get the b450 steel legend, but it doesn't has bios flashback, so if it doesn't come with the right bios, dann bist du am arsch XD. Hat aber nen zweiten m.2 slot.

samsung 970 pros (for the high write/rewrite cycles) and speed.  I have been doing a good bit of file movement for some different projects and switching to a mostly SSD setup with samsung 970s has made my quality of life much better.  The speed is insane when you are working on only fast SSDs
