What gpu would be good enough to play AAA games at high settings 144fps 1080p.

My pc specs.

I5-6400 2,7ghz

8gb ram upgrading to 16gb of ram

500w power supply 

GTX 970

And would my cpu bottleneck?

Radeon 5700XT is the best bang for the buck, not sure about how your 4 cores CPU will handle the GPU.

Main System: Ryzen 2700, Asus Crosshair VII Hero, EVGA GTX 1080ti SC, 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz CL14, CM H500, CM ML240L cpu cooler.

Second System: Ryzen 2400G, Gigabyte B450 DS3H, RX 580 Nitro+, Kingston A400 SSD, Team T-Force 3200mhz CL15

If it ain't overclocked it ain't good...

isn't actually the 5700 non-XT the best bang for the buck? if you can find somethin with decent cooling, you can OC it to match more closely the XT models.

Also, if the used market is viable, a 1070ti maybe? it would be well cheaper, leaving you some leftover cash for a 6600 or higher (maybe a K model if your mobo can do anything with it)

I don't think that buying the bare minimum for his needs now is a good idea, i would see a step further by buying a the XT model, if he want to play 1440p one day he won't have to buy another GPU
