I am building a PC for my retired father, it is just for normal computing use (not gaming etc...), he wants to plug it in to a 4K TV and wishes to be able to control the PC whilst in bed.

1. Will a AMD Ryzen 5 3400G have enough graphical power to run windows at 4K or will I need to include a graphics card in the build.

2. I think that using a K&M in a bed sounds impractical, are there any products available that make this practical.

1. Just running Windows will be fine, but perhaps if you want to run 4K videos and such it won't be enough. Depends on the codec and programs used.

2. You can take a look at something like the Roccat Sova or Corsair Lapdog, or get a keyboard with a mousepad built-in (e.g. Logitech K400)

Like what does he need to use the PC for? If it's for watching content you can just get a 4k streaming box or android TV box + any laptop/tablet/chromebook for multi-tasking.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I assume the PC will be used for watching 4K videos.

The reason he is not getting a laptop is because we have personally (this is our opinion) found them to be overpriced and unreliable compared to simply building a PC myself.

As to why he is plugging his PC into his TV, I assume its because he does not want to buy a new monitor if it can be plugged into his TV.

I also assume that he wants to be able to use it sitting/lying on the bed is so he does not have to pay for and assemble a PC desk and chair.

So, i guess thirdly, assuming the PC needs a graphics card to run 4k videos on the tv, what kind of graphics card can i get away with?

Because of the DRM requirements it's far easier to just use a 4k streaming box or even like an xbox one S, that way it can also be used for 4k blu rays.

I'd only get a PC if you need to do extra things like running PC specific programs, but ya know if it's nothing very intense that's what laptops are good for...
