Need to update bios on Asus Strix X570-E board. Does the usb need to be formatted in FAT or is NTFS ok?

Usually FAT, but some more modern motherboards will accept NTFS, if it doesn't say otherwise in the motherboard manual, I would go with FAT to be safe

you can do it directly in the Bios with a ethernet connection. just fyi as it skips a lot of the hazzle with updating the BIOS.

Thanks guys. Building in different room with wifi connection - so do not want to chance internet connection.

can you format a "large" USB (10Gb) into FAT? My MB is the latest from Asus so maybe NTFS should be ok.

Finally picked up the courage to update the bios:( All went well and got a message that the bios was updated. For some reason the PC, on reboot, got stuck for ages. Rebooted few times - unplugged the mains, video cable etc. - no luck in the boot, blank screen. Tried to put Windows 10 USB stick in and it booted with a message to reinstall Windows 10!!!

Fortunately had backed up the C drive with Acronis before the bios update!

Reinstalled Win 10 and then recovered the drive with Acronis. All ok now but what a pain!

BTW the Bios version in bios is the latest now.
