So, this has been a problem for a while and now i want to resolve it..

Problem

(Netflix Dolby Digital) Panasonic CX802 - Optical Out (PCM) -> FIIO Converter -> Cambridge Audio 650A (Stereo Amp) No Audio

Further Detail

When optical output is used the dolby digital format remains.. Which won't work with the converter and gave static noise when i tried the d30 Amp(Licensing maybe).

It is used for Music, PS4, Netflix in order of current usage

Initial Thoughts

I want to simiplify my setup, Arc into an AV receiver would do the trick but i am plenty sure it will cause a drop in stereo sound quality, the other option was like a Marantz PM6005 which has an optical input but i was concerned about dolby digital.

Question

What do you think ia the best way to resolve this? Looking to especially hear from those who were in similar situations. Budget is 400 for a new amp.

Intel 12400F | 2x8 3000Mhz Corsair LPX | ASRock H570M-ITX  | Noctua DH-N14 | Corsair MP50 480GB | Meshilicious | Corsair SF600Fedora

Thanks let me know if I said something useful. Cheers!

Sounds like you need a dac that is compatible with the codec you are trying to use

With ARC, you will have 0 loss of sound quality, and the marantz does not support dolby digital, but if you're looking around 400, i would grab a decent AVR with ARC, then everything will tick along nicely. I would check out the Pioneer VSX-933, Tonne's of inputs, HDMI ARC, 7.1 plus you can hook up a second set of speakers for another stereo setup and power them with this. It also has 2 subwoofer pre-out's which is nice. Also has internet/networking stuff (like internet radio etc.), and of course it has calibration to get everything sounding correct. Really good for the price.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)
