Laptop wont detect microphone

Glem

This is probably and easy fix but I cant seem to figure it out. Whenever I plug in headphones or ear buds into my laptop the only microphone it will use is the built in one. I've tried to switch microphones in the sound/recording settings but there is no option to switch it to. If anybody could help that would be great.

Does your laptop have a combination jack, or are they individual audio out and audio in jacks?

Maybe uninstall the drivers and then reinstall the drivers and that might fix it up.

It has a single headphone jack, I've tried using a headset with a headphone and mic splitter/adapter if that makes sense.

If you right click on the volume icon and click "recording devices" does your mic show up in there? If it does, right click on it and select "set as default".

I don't believe it shows up. The only one listed the microphone for the laptop. I was looking at other websites and they suggest I needed to use Realtek HD Audio Manager, but I can seem to open it or find it.

What make and model is your laptop? Go to their website and download/install the latest audio drivers they have for your model and OS version.
