Asus ROG B450 Ryzen 3000

TheJedi

Hi, building a new system for video editing.

Going to use Ryzen 5 3600X for my build and I was wondering if I can use this motherboard

It's the ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING AM4/B450/DDR4/S-ATA 600/ATX Socket Motherboard - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07F714FT7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Ll-IDbBGV9J1Q

I want to know if I have to update the Bios for the CPU to work in it and if I do, can I update it without a CPU ?

If I do I don't have an AM4 chip so what do I do?

System

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

Case: Phanteks eclipse P400A

Motherboard: MSI B550 Gaming Carbon WiFi

GPU: MSI RTX 3060 TI Gaming X Trio

RAM: 16GB XPG D60G CL16 3200MHZ

PSU: Sharkoon SilentStorm Cool Zero 650W

Storage: Crucial P2 1TB

On ASUS page, it said the board is Ryzen 3000 ready so I believe the board will ship with the Ryzen 3000 compatibility BIOS out of the box.

You can request AMD to send you a bootkit which will going to take more than a week for the bootkit to arrive

or

You can purchase a Ryzen 3 2200G to flash the BIOS.

My ASUS ROG Strix X470F bought last week comes with the Ryzen 3000 BIOS compatibility out of the box.

yes you have to update it, but certain motherboard manufacturers (or  AMD idk) are offering a free kit for people buying Ryzen 3000 CPU's with B450 boards, so I would look into that as it is a lot cheaper than buying another CPU just to update your BIOS.
