A week ago I stared hearing my Hard drive (on my pc) to spin a lot faster than usual even when in idle I can hear it....Just to be clear I dont have any problems when it comes to noise after all my pc has 3 fans including the cpu cooler and a hard drive as well as an ssd and it is a mini itx build but thats besides the point the thing is that my hard drive is so loud that even when I have a video playing I can hear it over the voice of the guy I am wathcing. Also sometimes it spins really fast and it sounds like a jet !! The drive is 4TB Western Digital and I got it 2 months ago from my warranty because my other drive malfunctioned and wester digital sent me a new one. I dont know what to do is my disc bad or it is just the fact that it is really loud all the time

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!

Umm, a hard drive can't really spin faster or slower.

It either spins at a fixed rpm (most common rpm's are 5400, 5900 and 7200 iirc) or it's idle which turns off the motor.

So it's either a bit loose causing it to rattle and end up being VERY loud because the case usually amplifies the little bit of shaking from the hdd to something a lot worse.

What I would do is take the HDD out and put it on a cardboard box but leave it connected and see if the loud noise is away or is actually from the HDD itself.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

I did that already by just having the hdd in my hand and it still vibrated a lot and even when i touch it while in the case it was vibrating like crazy however when i had it in my hand I realized that one of the 4 or 5 black circles on the drive (i dont know what they do they look like stickers) is non existent. And also i forgot sometimes there is a knocking sound from the drive

If you don't have the drive backed up already, back it up NOW.

The symptoms indicate that the drive is probably failing.

better get a new Harddisk drive and if you dont want to have a hassle to redownload games from steam, try making a recovery disk of games from steam.

Creating Backup Files

  1. Right-click the game in the Library section
  2. Select Backup game files...
  3. Check the boxes for any other games to backup at this time
  4. Click Next >
  5. Browse to the folder where you wish to create the backup files (the files will be stored in c:\program files (x86)\steam\Backups by default) and click Next >
  6. Select the Backup file name and set the File size for the media you plan to use.
  7. Click Next > to begin the backup process.
  8. Once complete, choose Open backup folder  to move or burn copies of the backup files
