Hi,

I'm a new tech support in a medium-size company, I'm planning to upgrade our old pc's but we're on tight budget. Our pc's are mostly i3 2nd gen to 4th gen (4GB RAM). Most of the the pc's are used only for emails, >5 excel sheets open, multiple chrome tabs and other word processing

My question is, is it reasonable if I only upgrade from HDD to SSD and 8GB RAM? will it work up until 5yrs or more? and what's your experts recommendation?

Thanks!

Yes, installing new SSDs and more ram will definitely give them a breath of fresh air.

You can also identify your heavier users and plan an upgrade for them, your boss needs to understand that technology is a big part of the company and it directly generates income (by allowing workers to do their job). It's hard to say 100% for certain that an upgrade now will last for 5 more years, taking into account we are talking about old systems already, but they will definitely feel an upgrade in responsiveness with what you are planning atm.

You should plan a progressive upgrade plan with your boss. Every year the IT department has X to upgrade the infraestructure, which should be a different budget than that for unexpected repairs and maintenance. Its the best way to keep the computer "fleet" up to date.

We are talking about workplace PCs here... a 7 or 8 year lifespan is really good already.

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link
