CPU Recommendation

Yo, I'm looking for a good CPU to be paired with a GTX 1660TI 6GB but not to expensive... have a budget of about £250.... currently looking at the Ryzen 5 2600.

Probably anything will run the 1660ti, so yeah the 2600 is a good choice.

Main System: Ryzen 2700, Asus Crosshair VII Hero, EVGA GTX 1080ti SC, 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz CL14, CM H500, CM ML240L cpu cooler.

Second System: Ryzen 2400G, Gigabyte B450 DS3H, RX 580 Nitro+, Kingston A400 SSD, Team T-Force 3200mhz CL15

If it ain't overclocked it ain't good...

Cheers mate! ? Found one for £207.65 on www.cclonline.com

For 250 pounds, on amazon.uk, you can get a ryzen 5 3600 for 194 pounds, which is a considerably better choice.

Does 250£ include the cost of mobo ? The R5 2600 is still a very good CPU and with 6c/12t it will be much more future proof then an i5.

CPU: i9 9900K   Cooler: NH-D15   RAM: Kingston Fury 4 x 8GB 3600MHz CL17   Mobo: ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F   GPU: ASUS 3080 TUF   Case: In Win D-Frame   PSU: Corsair HX850i   Storage: 250GB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe (OS), 500GB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe (Games), 2TB Crucial BX500 SSD (Storage)   Monitor: Samsung Odyssey Neo G9.

So the Ryzen 5 3600 is much better than the 2600? The 3600x is £218 on Amazon, i will have a look at the 3600x then thank you!

No, the £250 is just for the CPU

I mean, you could, but I think that the 3600x isn't worth the extra over the 3600

It's 15-20% faster for gaming and 10-15% faster for multi-threaded applications. Well worth the price. Pair it with a 20 quid cooler like the Freezer 34 eSports or 212 and you can enable PBO for even better performance

Oh.. Then you should definitely be looking at an 3600 (not the 3600X, The extra cost is not worth it imo). A good B450 mobo will be enough but it needs a BIOS update before the 3600 CPU will work.

Next to the 2600 - it's the same CPU with higher clocks

In addition to what @Boyohansaid, remember to get a b450 (or whatever else, what's your mobo budget?) with a Bios flash.

That's the one im looking at

It ain't too bad, but you have to buy that, a r3000 series processor, and their bios upgrade kit to get the bios upgraded before shipping. Why not try get a b450 tomahawk instead?

Agreed. The bios on the MSI Tomahawk can be easily updated with a usb drive

Cool, so if i was to buy either the 2600x or the 3600x they would work with the B450 Tomahawk no problem?

But what brand/model of mobo isn't very important imo. There are a lot of decent b450 mobo from Gigabyte/MSI/ASUS etc... Just do not go for the cheapest and you should be alright.
