4670K vs 4770K

Go to solution Solved by brob,

I can't decide between the 4670K and the 4770K. I know that if I am just gaming I should get the 4670K and "save the money and put it towards other parts"

But, I would still like to know

1. What are the gaming benefits of a 4670K over a 4770K?

2. What programs will take advantage of the things that the 4770K has and the 4670K doesnt have?

3. What are those things that the 4770K has and the 4670K doesnt have?

4. Any other comments you have about them.

  1. Very small benefit if any in some games, http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i5-4670k-4670-4570-4430_5.html#sect0, http://www.anandtech.com/show/7189/choosing-a-gaming-cpu-september-2013/10.
  2. 3D design, video editing in particular rendering, etc. will usually take advantage of as many threads as possible. One also sees a benefit with streaming and in the number of concurrently active tasks one can have and still have a responsive system.
  3. The only significant difference between the i7-4770K and the i5-4670K is the hyperthreading capability of the i7. It allows the cpu to execute 8 threads concurrently while the i5 can only execute 4 concurrent threads. (Not to be confused with active threads of which both cpu can handle hundreds, perhaps thousands.)
  4. An i7-4770K never has to perform worse than an i5-4670K. The reverse is not true.

gaming= 4670k

gaming/everything else=4770k

1. No benefits, maybe bang for the buck.

2.  Some editing programs probably.

3. Hyperthreading.

4. If you really want to save some cash onto other things for your rig. I would say either get a 8350 or a 8320. And with the extra money instead of getting those cpu's you can put them towards a better gpu.

Wanna hang out with me and people like @Theslsamg, @ Ssoele, @BENTHEREN, @Lanoi, @Whiskers, @_ASSASSIN_, @Looney, @WunderWuffle, and @nsyedhasan. Well.... Check out: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/48484-unofficial-linustechtips-teamschnitzel-server-teamspeak/

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Got it, I am buying a 4670K.

You should cjange this to 4670K vs 4820K. Most games nowdays are not cpu bound on a high end cpu, even the one gen old 3570k that im currently using until my desktop is finished doenst get full utilized in many cases. Hell up until the last year or so you be fine with a high clocked dual core. The i3-2100 + plus a top range gpu was actually some what common.
