VLAN + VPN?

So here's my setup

I have a dedicated machine running a game server, I don't want it exposed to the rest of the local network. I was thinking of solving this by using a VLAN. I also want to be able to vpn in but I don't want to expose rdp to the internet so some sorta vpn sounds like the play to make. So here's my question, I'm buying a router for this exact purpose and I'm hoping for suggestions on what router to use that can do a vpn to a vlan. I've also heard some open source firmware can do something like this but I wouldn't know which to use.

Not knowing where you are from... around here Fritz! Box routers do that... well not VLAN directly but a nice substitute with defining port 4 as "Guest Port" which isn't then able to reach the internal network.

Does that allow for a vpn connection to the one guest port? also i'm US based

Ok I think then you are out of Luck with a Fritz! Box. 

 

I need to pass here, not knowing much about the router options in the US...

What speeds does this router need to handle?

 

Most small buiness router will do this fine, like a edge router, pf sense, untange, sonicwall.

 

If you want cheap, id get a used desktop and run pfsense.
