PSU cable question

So,

 

I need 2 8 pin connections to power my 1070 ftw and all I have is 2 psu cables that terminate to 8 pin and 6 pin connections. In other words, the two cables have an 8 pin connection and a 6 pin connection each. Would it be safe to use the 8 pin connection from each cable and just zip tie down the two 6 pin connections?

What PSU is this?  Are you sure this isn't a PSU with 6+2-pin connectors?  Not many PSUs made in the last 10 years have 6-pins that aren't 6+2.

 

But yes... Theoretically you can use two cables and "tie off" the 6-pin connectors.  But my fear is the PSU is too old to still be in service.

I had a feeling it was going to be an EVGA P2 650w. @TVwazhere had the same problem with his 1070ti FTW card.
