For 720p? Just get an RX 550 or 560 or equivalent. A GTX 960 would handle pretty much any current gen title in 720p without any issues at all. Even a 950 might be able to do current AAA games at higher settings in 720p.

560 or GT1030 already fine tho

your tv is probably HD Ready (1366 x 768) and not 720p ... but it doesn't matter ... the difference is not significant.

IF you buy new, a RX 570 is best value at around 110$ and it's future proof... it's enough for 1080p high quality gaming.

If you want cheaper, you can buy RX 460 on ebay for around 50-70$. here's an example , here's another

A better value (higher fps but older gen) would be something like R9 380 or R9 390... they're 65..100$ on eBay (make offers, they'll take less). Here's an example, here's another, here's yet another .... all 65-70$ (plus shipping for some).  They're much faster than rx460 in lots of games and 4GB memory helps, here's a comparison.... the downside is power consumption, close to 200w while rx 460 uses less than 75w.

RX 570 are 85-100$ (not including mining versions with only one dvi output) .... performance for money they're best.
