Hi everyone,

A year or so ago I did delid my old 6700k and the temps initially went down by like 15C or something under load, the results were pretty decent I would say.

However after the Delid I made the (maybe stupid) decision not to glue the CPU back together since the guide I was following stated that if you plan on just installing the CPU once and not ship it or anything like that it'd be fine.

I dont know if that's whats causing the issue but I noticed my temps go pretty much as high as before the delid now, we're talking like up to 90C sustained under load at 4.5ghz with around 1.3 to 1.325v.

What I have tried was using a different cooler, one of which was a Dark Rock Pro 4 the other one was a H100i, I also obviously while switching coolers renewed the thermal paste on the IHS but all of that didn't change anything.

So I thought about maybe opening the CPU back up - removing the Liquid metal that I applied before (which is what I'm most curious about - is there even any way on removing the Metal from the Die without damaging it?), then re-apply

the liquid metal and this time properly glue the thing together, just to eliminate that source of potential failure.

What are your thoughts on that? Do you think removing the Liquid metal from the die is even possible after approx. 1 year? From what I've heard its technically possible but I've only seen people do it on the IHS, not on the die itself.

Generally you need to replace the LM about once a year. Sounds like its just time to redo the LM application truthfully.

Ah, see I never even knew that. So do I try and remove the old metal or do I just apply a new layer? If so, how should I go about removing it?

Use alcohol to remove it and be careful to not get ANY liquid metal on other metal. Gallium really isnt kind to other metals.

You could also go back to some good thermal paste and avoid having to swap metal once in a while

Remove it. Should be able to do it with a paper towel or something to soak it up and then IPA to clean it fully once you have it removed and then reapply.

I've got another 1ml or something of Conductonaut at home I'll probably just use that, if I'm honest I dont think I'll keep the 6700k in my main rig for another whole year so I'd rather have the maximum performance.

Thanks for the Cleaning Tips, I'll update this post once I get to it, should be tomorrow
