Ethernet Cable or Patch Cable??

What is the difference! 

 

I am about to buy a 50-100m CAT5e or CAT6 cable from my router to my PC and run it through my house.

 

Does it matter which one I get?

They can mean the same thing but generally a patch cable implies a very short run from one device to another. Otherwise in the world of Ethernet cables they're identical.

A “patch cable” is any short cable used to connect or “patch” in between devices. Usually the limit of “patch cable” is things within the same room. And the term “patch cable” isn’t just used for ethernet either.
