So, I'm currently studying a solution for a future investment regarding a rendering platform for video editing, VFX and 3D rendering.

Since I use OctaneRender (A GPU-accelerated render engine that scales perfectly the more GPUs you have) I'm searching for the most cost-effective solution to have the most PCIe lanes.
PCIe lanes are key, since I plan on having a 4 GPU system in the near future, and I would love to have 16x lanes on each

Octane doesn't really care about CPU really, they just ask you a decent clockspeed for fast user experience, but doesn't count at all in the rendering process, but since I will do VFX compositing and editing too off this machine and not only 3D rendering, I'd like to have a fast multi-core platform for use in AVID Media Player, the Adobe Suite and DaVinci Resolve, with modeling in both ZBrush and Cinema 4D (I don't know if I will switch to Autodesk Maya at some point in the future).

I will need 10Gbe on the motherboard since I plan on filling all the space for PCIe expansion, so I can't occupy one for just a network card.

Threadripper 2 seems the best solution for me, but I want to get someone else's opinion on this.
Thank you in advance!

A single cheap Epyc chip should be able to give you more than enough lanes. You sure you need 16x lanes?

Also you might want to look into miningshelves for holding the ammount of GPUs.

Epyc would be cool, but I don't know how it would handle video editing and such.

Also, yes, i need 16x lanes, Octane is really demanding.

Its not gonna be the greatest at the editing part due to a lower clockspeeds.

Well if you need 16 lanes, then Epyc is the only plattform to do that cheaply and with 4 16x slots and 10 Gbit
