Recently got a 3900X and my mobo has 8+4pin for power.

My RM750x only has 1 cpu power cable, the 4+4 one.

But it does have 3x 8pin available on the psu. I currently use one for my GPU and one 8pin for my cpu but i would like to get the empty 4 pin filled up aswell.

Since the PSU only came with one 4+4pin cable, is it safe to put another one in it, there is space for it as mentioned above.

Also, is there a place i can buy these cables, i only find cablemod sets. They are 100€ so at that pricepoint i can just buy a new PSU and use one of those cables.

I am here to learn, please correct me if im wrong or you see me putting bs on your screen!

the 8 pin connectors used for your GPU are PCIe cables, in a 6+2 configuration. they will not fit into a CPU power connector, they are shaped differently (on purpose, because that's not what they're for.)

you don't have anything to worry about. A single 8 pin CPU connector can push over 350 watts, I doubt you'd be exceeding that.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Do you know if the PSU is the 2018 variant or is it a earlier variant?  I know for sure the 2018 comes with 2 8pin EPS connectors as I know that PSU. I don't know about the earlier variant but there wasn't much of a change so i would think it does as well.

A single 8-pin is more than adequate for your 3900X.  But if you do want the second cable, the part number is CP-8920115.  Or, if you can't find that, there's CP-8920141.  The latter has the caps in the cable so it's kind of a pain to work with.

The individually sleeved cables like CableMod are expensive.  But they're easy to obtain.  The part number for the Corsair version is CP-8920236, but they're also expensive (like $40).

Maybe @Corsair Nick can be of more help.

He must have the original version.  The original RM750x only had one EPS12V.

I bought it used for like 45€, the guy might have kept a cable idk.

I thought the extra power would help because while video encoding for my plex with handbrake, my CPU only goes up to 70% ish.

Could it just be handbrake ?

That is just a limit of handbrake my 2700x using h265 video codec with NvEnc only gets up to around 70% as well.

Thats kinda sad :/

since u have experience with encoding stuff, any other software that does utilise all of the cpu?

What video codec are you working with and what resolution are you coming from and going to?

  • 1 month later...

I have the RM750x 2018 version I know that because I have 2 EPS cables. I also got the ryzen 7 3700x and the Asus Rog Strix X570-E Gaming that have 2 EPS ports, one that have 8 pin connectors and another one that have 4 pin connectors.

Now I have the same doubt about what should I plug...but as far I can tell, you can divide the 4+4 cable in two and pollulate with 2 cables both the 8 pin port and the 4 pin port on the motheboard (I think if a cable is called (8 pin) you can't split it...but in case it's called (4+4 pin) you can...check which one you got in the manual)

Now the main question is:

Should I plug both EPS connector (4 pin and 8 pin) on the motherboard or it will be fine just with the 8 pin plugged in?

Thanks

8pin by itself will work
Or since your PSU has it you can use the 8pin + 4pin (half of the 4+4pin)

I was asking that because the lenght and the ability to bend of the corsair EPS cable (but also the others one) in the meschify c is already a pain in the a**...and it could be difficult if not maybe impossible for me to work with 2 EPS cable in the top rear position...

Just do the 8pin then. Leave the optional 4pin empty.
