Hello all,

Im really not sure what to do at this point, iv tried everything i can think of but i cannot get port forwarding to work on my new internet. I called the ISP today and its not something they've had a problem with or deal with so i can only assume its a problem at my end. Iv tried different programs as well such as a Plex media server, FTP server and Minecraft servers and it will not work im wondering if there is any settings on my router that need changing. Iv already tried DMZ as well to no avail. i have a TP-Link Archer C6 router and it is a pppoe network. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Antonio.

You made sure your software (if you are on windows then its windows firewall) firewall is also set to allow those ports right?

Yeah enabled everything through the firewall

I am not sure if this applies to you but my ISP runs a pool of dynamic virtual ip addresses (the ip my modem gets is different from my wan ip) unless I pay for static IP (which dumb but whatever) have you checked that out?

I did know what it was specifically called but yes my isp does have that the ip on my router for the internet is different to the ip i get if i search what is my ip. how will this affect port forwarding?

I had to call them each time my modem got a new IP to let them enable NAT/NVI on my address (in the end they forced me to get a static ip address).

Does the routers wan ip in one of these ranges? 10.0.0.0/16, 192.168.0.0/16 or 100.64.0.0/10?

If the wan ip is different from the public ip, then there is probably cgnat, so you can't do port fordwarding. You isp may be able to change this for a fee, or you can do a vpn to a vps or simmilar

Well normally you would use a vpn to connect  to a vps, and those normally have a public ipv4 address, so you can host whatever you want from there.+

Try with a DDNS, imo you're inside a NAT. My ISP provides me with a static IP for free because I requested it, but by default I'm NATted, and it's common practice for ISPs

Been doing lots of testing. cannot get anything to work is there anyway to bypass a NAT do i use a VPN and how would i use a VPN with my router?

Thanks

Some ISP's do not give you a public ip, they give you a private ip on their network. If that is the case for you you can't port forward without asking your isp to open a port for you. Check your ip and see if its a public ip or not.

I guess a lot of people have already suggested this but its probably what your problem is.
