I have a Seagate 500GB 7200RPM HDD in my desktop and a OCZ Vertex 50GB SSD (Years old) in my laptop. I ran Crystaldiskmark on both and my SSD is about 2x faster in read (160MBs) but it's quite a bit slower in write speeds.. (HDD is 75MBs and SSD is 28MBs)

Why is this? (Also I haven't gotten around to changing the HDD in my BIOS back to ACHI from IDE) I don't have any SSD software (None of that Intel stuff) on my laptop either.

Yeah, it's weird.. I got it to work in AHCI mode and I only gained like 3 MBs on both read and write..

But why is the SSD write speed so slow?

Maybe is dying

The HDD is barely a year old.. And it still scores a 5.9 in the Windows scoring thingy.

Windows score is pointless Have you tried a reinstall, plus i'm talking about the ssd not the hdd

Oh. Yeah, that thing is old. I got it from my dad last year after he upgraded to a 256GB. It has the latest firmware, so I really don't know what to do about it.

Run a secure erase utility on the drive and it will be back to factory speeds :)
