Is it possible to hide Hardware Media Key Handling overlay/ui (but still have it functioned)?

I recently bought a new keyboard which has media keys+volume dial. The volume dial works fine and so do the media keys when watching videos on Youtube. However the overlay is distracting as it's a big block with the picture preview and name/title. I'm just wondering if its possible to hide that part and only show the volume ui/overlay?
I know you can disable Hardware Media Key Handling but I still want to use it, just hiding the text part.
