Im fairly certain i could make it through the next gen of games with my 6700k @4.5ghz however i am very tempted by ryzen as im starting to get into streaming. Im not having any cpu issues yet in games, but with next gen systems finally having proper 8 core cpus powered by ryzen, the temptation is there. The pic attached is what im considering pulling the trigger on. Im VERY picky about looks when it comes to motherboards. My current board looks very similar to the one in the picture (its an MSI Gaming M5)
(PRICES SHOWN IN IMAGE ARE IN CAD, please check cad price before making recommendations, im not spending more than 800 to swap off my 6700k)

Few questions-

1- Could my 6700k power though the 9th gen of games?
2- Is AMD's single core perf at least on par with my 6700k now?
3- Is an x470 chipset board enough to tame the 3700x?
4- Should i wait for the next gen of Ryzen? Is it to late to jump on the 3k series?

yes or no.PNG

1.  Yes, do you have an OC on it?

2.  Yes, AMD is almost to the 9th gen of Intel for single core.

3.  A B450 is enough for a 3700X.

4.  I would wait if you're getting the performance you want in your games and apps.  It's not too late, they only came out a month and a half ago.

Take that Money and get a 2070 super and stream using nvenc your Cpu is still fine :) Most streamers now use gpu encoding not cpu

Its at 4.5ghz right now yeah. I do get stuttering when streaming some games if they are cpu intensive which is annoying, but in regular gaming i have yet to see a game peg it above 65 percent use across the cores.

No. I will NEVER buy Nvidia again, and i already have a 5700xt i JUST spent 650 cad on which is better than a 2070/s anyday. Pass, thanks though. Thanks for reminding me to update my sig though lmao

For your questions

1 Probably
2 Yes, it's notably faster than your CPU in single-core performance :)

3 A B450 Tomahawk Max is more than enough for a 3700X

4 3000 series just came out. 4000 series is next year

Thats a rare thing to see, AMD finally competing in single core is good. I only went 6700k because zen was a year out and my old 8350 was going on its 4th or 5th year of use and was really holding back my R9 390 i had at the time. Ill gladly hop off intel as soon as i can, but if the 6700k wont be an issue next gen its sort of hard to part with 800 bucks.

Not really that rare - before FX, Intel and AMD were basically leap frogging each year.

FX lasted A LONGGGGG time though, like years longer than it should have, its been almost a decade by now id say of AMD being behind in single core, glad to see their back where they should be.

More like 6 years but yeah, I get what you mean - FX was a gamble where AMD placed all the chips on it and lost big time.

Seems its 7 percent faster on a single core and scales by 2x faster each core added. Thats not super impressive when thought about in IPC terms, but overall with all cores screaming thats one spicy fast chip. Might have to grab one of these, at least i wouldnt have to touch my pc for another 4 years upgrade wise, which is where i like to sit.

What are you using to compare? If it's CPUBoss or UserBenchmark, don't worry, they are horribly inaccurate :D - single-core performance should be about 15% better on Zen2 compared to Skylake

Just did a quick user bench compare. Hows it perform for emulation then?  Since thats a pretty single core heavy task usually?
