2070 Super low fps GTA 5

iHomer

Ryzen 5 1600

With 2070 super.

Playing GTA 5 with cranked ultra setting I'm barely getting 60 FPS. What gives?

Maybe your cpu holding back your GPU ?

What is cpu usage ?

60 to 70  percent usage

Nothing much in the background

So I've turned off extended distance scaling off. And the only advanced graphics setting, high Res shadows on.

And not getting 60 to 70.

Is that not a bit low still?

As nice as that CPU is, it's going to hold you back for sure, GTA really likes CPU power.  Additionally, even the top cards can be heavily weighed down by overzealous settings.  Cranking most things up is fine but genuinely maxing it out is still very demanding afaik.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Gotch ya, thought upgrading to a 2070 super would mean you can play maxed out. turned them down a bit and got a steady fps above 60. i'd probably put them a tad down. like msaa etc

I think your CPU is the issue here. As @Ryan_Vickers pointed out a game like gta V is heavily CPU depended.

maybe pick up a 3600 + B450 tomahawk combo to complement your 2070S ?

Yeah I've managed to get a steady 60 on a Fury and a GTX 660, both of course less powerful than your card, so it's just a matter of settings, as with anything.  You should be able to get an excellent experience still.  There comes a point with graphics settings that you sort of tip over the edge into things that tank the performance for little or no actual visual improvement.

probably a future upgrade tbh. spent too much upgrading to the 2070 super.

I'll keep it in mind for the future tho!

Strange.. My old rig handled GTA V maxed out just fine apart from vegetation being on medium, and was outputting 50-60 FPS easily with a 4770K and 1070 both non-oced

I think i had extended distance, along with msaa and a whole bunch of other bs maxed out.
