Hello!

When I finished by new build, I gave my old PC away to a friend. This machine is old, but it still runs the games she wants to play just fine. If it helps, heres the specs:

M5A97 R2.0 Asus Motherboard

AMD Phenom II X4 processor

16GB G.Skill Ripjaws X Memory 1600mhz

Zotac GTX 1050 OC (powered through PCI slot) - formerly a GTX 760.

She has had an issue with no display coming up on screen. When I say no display, I dont even think the monitor wakes up from sleep when the computer is powered on. She and her boyfriend suspected it was a graphics card (Ye Olde 760), so they went and bought a low range card (Ye Cheape 1050). The concern still persists after card replacement. I am not too sure where to go from there, other than say that the old components have finally lived their lifespan (mobo, cpu, etc)

I am curious if anyone has any other ideas? I have an extra board, chip and RAM I can throw in to that computer without spending a dime, I just want to know what troubleshooting should be done first before I pull that trigger.

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X GPU: Sapphire Pulse RX 9070XT Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X470-F RAM: Corsair 32GB Vengeance 3600Mhz PSU: Corsair RM850X White

Cooling: Corsair H115i RGB Storage: Samsung 970 Evo NVME (2TB) Case: NZXT H500i White

Keyboard: Corsair K70 Mechanical Mouse: Logitech Superlight 2

you can use these to troubleshoot before donating them.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

We have tried a new video cable, HDMI, DVI on the 760, and DisplayPort on the new card. no dice.

I cannot do anything of a driver check or re-install if I plain and simply have no display whatsoever

I would say its time to retire the PC.  Or think it is the motherboard and wasting money on that and still no go.  Something is off I'm stumped.

since OP said there was no video output, but I wonder if that extends to the BIOS

Well thats the thing. If its Mobo/CPU related, I have replacement parts sitting in a box ready to install. But before I go dissecting this machine, I want to be sure what I am removing will solve the problem.

Part of the steps to diagnose what is wrong would be to replace/reseat parts. If it is not posting at all or displaying anything but is still powered on it could be a ram issue, try reseating or replacing the ram and see if that works, if it still doesn't post after being reseated or with the other ram then it could be the CPU or Motherboard. Another thing, was the Monitor they are trying to use the one you had originally used with the PC or one they had already or bought separately, maybe test another device with HDMI on the monitor just to rule out it isn't the monitor itself. Or hook the PC up to a different monitor or TV and see if it works on there.

So she has tried 3 different displays. Her own, her roommates and also the living room TV. She has also tested the concern with other HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort cables. No dice.

I know this motherboard has a MEMOK! light that illuminates for about a second and goes out. Typically if it was a memory problem (for incompatible RAM at least), it would stay solid and you would have no POST. But that could be a different story for malfunctioning RAM. When the 760 was still installed, I asked her to confirm that there are 2 green lights illuminating on the card, which was affirmative, as well as the green light just below the card on the motherboard.

I'd like to add a note to the forum here, see if anyone can give me some feedback.

I am going over there tomorrow with replacement parts and tools, in case I happen to need them. I have this little speaker that I can plug into the motherboard, hopefully I can get some beep codes. That being said, I hear that there are other manufacturers that develop the BIOS for Asus. Can anyone tell me who manufactures the BIOS for the M5A97 R2.0?

I plan on doing a couple things, first off ensuring the GPU is fully seated, as well as ram, drives, etc. I was advised by Asus Support to try clearing the CMOS as well as removing the ram and seeing if it will POST with one stick of RAM in one slot.

If no bueno, at least I have some replacement parts for her.
