Keep Windows on a smaller SSD?

Hi,

I'm planning on building a new PC. I currently use a 120GB SSD purely for Windows and some basic programs, for games I use a 500gb SSD. Other files (video files, pictures, etc) are all stored either on a server on one of my 1TB HDDs.

As the prices have dropped significantly in the last few years I want to use a 1TB SSD is my new build. The question is if there is still any benefit on keeping the Windows installation on the 120GB SSD, or is it easier / more beneficial to just put everything on the new 1TB drive?

I think the biggest benefit is not needing to re-install windows

Throwing Windows on the 1TB SSD would certainly be a lot more convenient since you wouldn't have to put any thought into where you install programs or download junk to.

I think Windows should have their "own" drive, like a 250/500GB

There's no real benefit to either or, but I like the idea of keeping my OS and applications on a separate drive so I can wipe it whenever I feel like. If still want a separate Windows thing, you can always partition the drive.

Major benefit is if the SSD crashes or there is an issue similar.  Will it happen?  Probably not.  But is it fun to list many drives your sig?  Hell yeah!!

 

Also, I don't like partitions for some reason *shrug*

 

@Rogier - I use that exact setup.  Small SSD for Windows, larger SSD for games, larger HDD for media.
