So I'm trying to upload a lot of photos onto Wikimedia Commons. I was using the Upload Wizard on commons.wikimedia.org however after some time, "None of the uploads were successful." error message would appear.

So then I tried to upload from en.wikipedia.org through a particular article and was greated to a "rate limit" error.

From my understanding a "rate limit" avoids spamming.

What I want to know is what is wikimedia limits. Like how many photos can I actually before having to wait for a certain number of minutes. Also what is the certain number of minutes? Any work arounds?

WikiMedia runs on the MediaWiki API. So if they have changed their RateLimit outside of the default you will need to contact them to confirm what their current RateLimits are.

Hmm... intresting. The 8 files per 60 seconds still does not make complete sense to me but thanks anyway.

no, firstly I'm not a new user. What I don't understand is that I'm able to upload batches of 50 photos at a time multiple times and then all of sudden. Error. I'll then have to wait an unsure number of minutes before I start reuploading batches of 50 photos.

oh, sorry ,_,

you mean like why would they let you upload 50 when you're limited to X per minute? or why doesn't the protocol spread out those uploads for you? o_o

I understand the need for the limitation. I just want the limiitation to be more clear. I want to know how long I need to wait for example.

It dosen't help that it allows me to upload, enter title and description, catogories etc and then only gives me problems
