Im building a pc next week, and Im geting a ssd, and hard drive, and I want a 2tb drive, I have narrowed it down to 3 HDDs, a segate barracuda 2tb, WD Green 2tb, WD Red 2tb, Ill have lots of videos on these mostly, and I would like it to be speedy, but since I wil have ssd for programs, important programs that I want speed on are fine. I will have a 850 watt psu, and it will be in a 650d case, so stock 200mm fan for intake, undervolted to at least 9 volts. What are the reccomendations, please all say why?

Hey @duncan5200

I would go with the seagate HDD. The WD greendrive is a low powered slower RPM drive. The WD red, is intended for network storage use at a 24/7 power on rate.

the seagate is a good all rounder and is very reliable. I am currently runnning 2 x 3TB Barracuda's in my system and they have been reliable and excellent speeds.

yeah, it includes idle times. Except gaming, HDDs are usually idle for the 90% you are on the computer  :D

Not a WD Green, I keep hearing bad things about them, actually I hear bad things about most green drives.

Also not a fan of Seagate, been warned away from them, and posts I read say similar things.

Don't know a lot about WD Reds, except they are designed for NAS.

I would always recommend WD Black drives, but I have a feeling they are out of your price range.

Will the segate be reliable still?

Yup, it will be reliable. I've clocked up on one of my seagate drives over 1000 hours constant use and 6000 hours idle. It still runs like it was brand new  :D

I have both in my system and they seem to perform the same. If the seagate is cheaper than the black, go for it!

I would imagine the reason why the Black drive is more, is because of the software and warranty/service. Essentially raw performance is the same. Its the software and service they provide that you're paying for.

Not out of it just dont want to spend that much, but give me a reason and I will.

  • 5 Year warranty
  • I have 2 and love them, I have all my games on 1, its nice and fast
  • I have had a few hdd's and found the WD Blacks are the most reliable

nothing else to really say about it, it does everything it says it does. My WD blacks get used around 12 hours a day for the last couple of years, and still running strong, no signs of slowing.
