Psu for nvidia 480

Hello my robotics team is building a PC for General coding and for 3d work(we have a 3d printer) and I was assigned the job of gathering parts from around the school.

When it comes to motherboard and ram and cpu I won't be a able to tell you what's going on but I donated some parts so I'll explain

We have a nvidia 480 (donated by first)

We have an asus essentio case (donated by me)

We have a 60 gb ssd (donated by me)

We have a 500gb hdd (found in an old pc)

But we have no power supply

Now I know the 480 is a power hungry card so what psu do you think will suffice. (Try to make it as cheap as possible budget Is tight since we bought our omni wheel)

It's no THAT power hungry. It has the same TDP as current cards. They just tend to run really, really hot.

I would recommend 750W if you want to do any overclocking. My 465 was maxing out my 600W psu so I upgraded to 750W

CX600 should do.

Maybe get a modular one, like the CX600m, ive got a CX750 and all the cables are really annoying. Worth the extra imo

There were a few times I forgot I had a stack of documents on top of the fan vents on the case...

Needless to say the computer turned itself off, and it took about an hour before it was cool enough to run again.

 

It also melted a few chocolate bars that were also placed on top. It's hungry in more ways than one.

I had an 850watt psu in mine. It died a couple weeks ago.

no no we simply don't have budget for a modular psu we are just trying to get a decent pc for what we need not looks or easiness to build at all.

Haha. Well looking on the bright side I never have to pay for heat (other than the electricity my computer would've consumed anyways). Not once have I ever had the radiators on in my apartment and it's always a comfortable temperature. :D

 

Melted chocolate bars are the worst, especially if you don't realise they're melted until you go and grab one thinking that you're going to enjoy a nice bar and instead it's mostly liquid. The disappointment is strong!

Ummmm.... what? 480s run hot but they don't use that much power. You'll be fine with a good quality 550w if you're not overclocking.
