steam tax

when you sell your inventory in steam, they say that it takes a 15% cut on the sale price. but, if you sell something for 3 cents, you only get 1 cent after the commission. they just too way more than 15%. that is more like 66%. what is going on?

i am bulk selling a bunch of trash items in my inventory. i literally only get half of what i should get. 

instead of getting 2c for everything i sell for 3c, i only get 1c.

The Steam Community Market essentially taxes any item sold on the store. On an item worth exactly $1.00, the item will be taxed accordingly (the market tax is 5% and the tax for whatever game you play is variable, TF2 has a 10% tax) so an item from TF2 sold for a dollar should equal 85 cents. SCM taxes even on items worth 3 cents.

That being said, I think SCM, in terms of TF2, gives you ~86.9% of what your item is sold for.

You're using their service. You should be happy they let you sell them at all.

but they are not giving me 86.9%. they are giving me 1/3 the selling price. (only when selling 3c items)

Again, SCM taxes items even if they're being sold for 3 cents. Why, I dunno, but they do. Probably a legal obligation.
