Hi, new over here.

So I need some suggestion for my new build. So I will list down the specs that I'm about to build:

Ryzen 3800X

Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro WiFi

2x 8GB Kingston Hyper Fury X 3200MHz

2x Seagate Barracuda 3TB (Will add another 2 later)

1x Intel 760p 1TB NVMe SSD

Gigabyte Radeon RX Vega 64 Gaming OC (Going to have 2 of these in the near future)

a Gigabyte PCIe x1 WiFi adapter

an SAS controller (PCIe x4)

1 tape drive (Dell LTO 5)

1 Blu-Ray Writer

So, how high my power supply should be? What would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

For anyone who are curious: This system will be a multi-role, meaning I will be use it for game, video editing and rendering, and 3D rendering.

Regards,

Benjamin Tan

Don't use Crossfire in 2019.

Get a single better GPU instead.

For 3D and video applications, so non gaming, it does actually make sense to have dual GPU

Dual Vega is quite a hefty load, something heavy duty will be needed. Were you interested in quiet operation?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Keep in mind that thermals may be an issue if you're keeping them on air coolers. The Gigabyte RX Vega64 is a 2.5 slot cooler card. With your motherboard the top card is only going to have a few millimetres clearance to the bottom card, so could potentially run really hot. If you're planning on doing a custom liquid loop with the cards then it shouldn't be an issue.

For the power supply I'd go with something like the Corsair HX1000 Platinum if you're decided on using two Vega64 cards. HX850 would also do the job as long as you're not overclocking the cards, but the way I see it if you're already running two Vega64 cards then you may as well flex with a 1000W PSU.

Depending on the model of Vega64 card you can see peaks over 300W per card, possibly even peaks as high as 400W[1] per card if they're overclocked.

Here's some power consumption tests for the Gigabyte RX Vega 64 card you already have: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gigabyte-rx-vega-64-gaming-oc-review,5441-4.html

Ryzen 3800X

Ryzen 3800X is a meme. The 3700X performs almost identically. Either go with the 3700X and save your money or spend a bit extra on the 3900X and get the extra cores/threads.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

Also, you don't need a WiFi adapter if your MoBo has WiFi.

Actually, I need 2 Wifi, 1 is for internet, 1 is for local NAS. Will be switching to Ethernet once the wiring is complete, but for now, I need 2 WiFi cards.

Yeah, but I'm not very good at liquid cooling, so I'll be in deep trouble. I saw some tutorials on liquid cooling the system, but still not very confident or comfortable to do so. Thanks for the heads up. So, will a full tower desktop help with the airflow?

Darn, must have type in the wrong model number. Yeah, I'll be using 3700X, but will be upgrading to 3900X or 3950X in the future. I think that motherboard may not be able to handle an OCed 3900X or 3950X. Looks like I may have to upgrade the mobo if I need 3900X or 3950X.
