Convert PDF to good kindle format

dlf

Found a pdf of a chemistry book -- of a class I want to take later this year (next semester). But as it is now it's seems mostly unreadble - no changing font size, going to a page or location, etc. What format would I have to change it to to get it normal kindle (touch) functionality?

.epub or .mobi. If the formatting's messed up in the .pdf though I'm not sure converting it to an .epub will do much good.

Seems I'd probably have to buy the kindle copy of the book from Amazon themselfs instead of trying to convert a PDF. Tried Mobi, tried epub.   Could (/would) calibre do a thing?
