PC Crashing after 20 Minutes of Gaming

RoundJaws

As of last month, my PC has been crashing after less than a half hour of gameplay. Everything else works fine, except games. For some reason OverWatch is not affected. My drivers and operating system are all up to date.

It's been Destiny 2, Ni No Kuni 2, and Mirror's Edge 2 that crash my PC. And when it happens my fans ramp up REALLY loud.

The crash does not take me to the bios ad sometimes I can still hear audio for a few seconds Straight to black for no reason. I don't know what to do.

From Ni No Kuni? If that's the issue, than something must be installed wrong. I'm not sure why this brand new 2070 would be overheating. I've only had this computer since April. :c

I had not heard of that game so I wasn’t sure if it was graphically intensive. I was unaware that this was a new GPU

It's just a really mid budget Bandai JRPG. Almost looks like a 360 game. And yeah. This whole computer is a 4 month old build.

Thought I forgot something...
Hrm. I'm trying to remember exactly what my psu was called. It's an EVGA 600w one, but I don't remember the exact model and don't have the box.

I don't know how to check temps. :c

Try running GPU specific stress tests such as furmark and Aida 64 (not at the same time)

I use MSI Afterburner. Just have it running in the background start playing a game and look back at it every so often to see what the temps are doing. I think if you detach the live stats it will stay over the top of your game so you can look at it while you play.

I'll do that later today and report back. Thank you.

My temps when playing Ni No Kuni trying to get as much going on screen didn't go above 51c.

Ok well temps around there are normal so doesn't sound like overheating. Going back to your original post you said the screen goes black. Do you mean the whole computer shuts down or does it stay on and just the screen goes black.

And also have you overclocked your GPU?

Also also what software are you using to control your fans (if any)?

I don't know the first thing about overclocking and don't need it so I don't bother. I can't tell if the whole computer just crashes. Screens just disconnect, things go silent, fans ramp to max, can't do anything.

I don't use any fan control. Unless this MSI thing I was told to use does that.

So when the screen goes black do the fans stay on? If so that would mean the computer is still on and most likely mean the graphics card is crashing. The only reason I can think of that happen would be if its been overclocked incorrectly. But since that isn't the case the card could be faulty.

Do you have the correct drivers installed and up to date?

I don't know how I could mess up driver installation. I use what the card came with and update it through it's driver's launcher.

Try uninstalling and re-installing by downloaded the drivers from Nvidia. Also make sure Windows is up-to-date (latest version is 1903).

Another thing could be your system isn't receiving enough power or isn't optimised properly and when under a heavy load it just cant keep up.
