Small form factor 1440p recommendations

RickL

Hi gents,

I'm after a little advice. I am used to building rigs form 5 or 6 years ago however the small form factor is a new thing for me. I'm struggling with time to build one from scratch also.

I am a light gamer playing city skylines, Pubg, EVE Online on a 1440p 75hz monitor. I would like to run on top settings for most of my games at 1440p. From what I can make out, the 2060 super or 2070 would suit me. Maybe the 5700xt.

I'm not sure one that CPU could pair well either of the above GPUs, I have been looking at the Ryzen 2600X.

A quiet running PC would be good so maybe liquid cooled? Also storage does not need to be large as media is on a NAS. I also dont need RGB.

I am also after a small form factor case. Unfortunately I cannot have a tower to the right hand side of my desk, it's not an option due to grabbing young children and the risk of it falling, I also cannot move the desk and i dont have alot of space.

Budget, i am guessing it will need to be around £1,000.

I have been looking at Pre-builds from the likes of PC Specialists in the UK. I am more than capable at a fresh PC build myself but I am not 100% certain due to it being a small form factor.

So, what could you guys first of all recommend build wise? GPU and CPU specs with the best bang for buck and then any pre-built systems?

Something like this would work:

It's a micro-ATX case so it's a fairly small form factor. Might be too big though. The 5700 matches the 2060 Super pretty much, but you could change the 3600 for a 2600 and put the savings into the 2060 Super if you really want ray tracing, or 5700XT for more fps.

Alternatively you can Czech out the Fractal Design Node 304 or Define Nano and get an ITX motherboard.

Also that's the second time today I found an NVMe SSD (albeit rather entry level) priced the same as a SATA SSD of the same capacity.

Right now it's truly a wonderful time to be in a market for some fast flash storage.

The Silverstone Sugo SG13B is about the size of a shoebox, small footprint on top of the desk and you won't ever have to worry about it toppling over the end. Additionally, if you have a monitor that doesn't have protruding legs on the stand and uses a round base, you can put it right on top of the Sugo.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Yeah , and P1 = 660p , so its overpriced.

If you really need nvme , like if you are doing video editing with big files , then you should be able to afford something better than QLC , like the sabrent rocket which is 110 pound in UK.

Big waste of money , considering 2666mhz ram does nearly the same , for chaper

Why? When TCSunBow X3 , is over 10 pounds cheaper , with the same controller , nearly same nand. Only difference i think is that the su800 has bigger slc cache and better binned nand , but that does not matter much , especially for a gamer like OP.

I have this case, and I like it. Great little case. Good cooling too for a small case, but not a quiet case, you can hear all the fans inside, even with quiet components. If you want something quiet, I'd look for something else.

You can go with something like the Fractal Design Define Nano, which is a great small and quiet case. It has noise dampening foam to reduce noise output.

If you can put the PC sideways under the TV, you might consider something like the Fractal Design Node 202 (which is your old school "horizontal" PC case that people used to put a monitor on top of)

You can definitely build it yourself, being ITX everything is a bit more tight, but it is not necessarily much more difficult.

For CPU, the Ryzen 3600 would suit your needs just fine.

The current Radeon 5700XT cards are great for 1440P, but also all blower-style coolers, which can get loud. I would wait for the custom cards

I would suggest something like below based on the sugo13, go with sfx psu and be quiet Shadow Rock LP cpu cooler, great combo in this case:

Good luck!

Oh wow guys! Thank you so much! Looking at all of these builds (which are extremely similar to each other) has returned my confidence to make a build.

Some of these suggested cases are VERY nice indeed! I'll let you all know what I end up doing but it's certainly looking like a Ryzen 3600 paired with the 5700 XT at the moment.
