Looking for a good GPU around $100 - $200

c00face

I have an older i5 4690k, 600 PSU, asus board.

Newer GPU would be ideal if it fits into that range. I've been out of the PC scene for a while so I'm not sure what's good or not.

If you wanna go new, the RX 580 8 Gig Model is king.

If you wanna go used, the 1070 is a good bet if you're willing to wait a bit for getting the right price.

Who needs fancy graphics and high resolutions when you can get a 60 FPS frame rate on iGPUs?

any nvidia GPU within those ranges?

Lower End nVidia stuff just isn't competing too well as of late. Hope they do make a competitor soon.

I have a RX 570 however and I have zero regrets in getting it, it has fabulous performance.

If you are the biggest nvidia fan boy, you can save up some extra money and buy 1660 to get perfomance like RX 580. But it is defenetly not smart to do that.

Well, yeah, RX 580 - is your choice if you aren't willing for any quests (just go and buy)

on the other hand. if you are a risky person, you can try to find some decent used GPUs. and if you're a very lucky person you could find something like Titan X for ~$220, or get a nice deal for a gtx1070.

thats what im looking for on ebay and newegg

i saw a RTX 2060 for 250 refurbished and it was sold just today.

im trying to avoid AMD products. i have bad experience with them, so im going to try nVidia for the first time and see how it goes.

apparently 1660 can be around those price ranges, 1070, and why would i consider Titan X? Isnt Titan X a little out-dated?

@c00face You can find find a used or refurbished GTX 980 for under $200 and a GTX 980ti for a little more than 200. Both of these cards are still great performers in 2019 if you are playing most games at 1080p with high detail settings.

@c00face try craigslist, newegg and OfferUp, sometimes a little bit of waiting and checking regularly can yield some good results.

@c00face If both 1070ti and 980ti are $300 or lower, then I would choose the 1070ti. What are the prices you have? Also what is your currency?

USA.

1070ti is around $290, refurbished.

980ti is around $220, refurbished.

This is more of a, "Well, Black Friday and Cyber Monday is around the corner in November." how much can these prices drop if i can just wait 3 more months?

If i cant wait...

Would it be worth to buy a 980ti playing on max settings 12 hours a day? I want quality over quantity. Quality as in, I want it to last more than 4 years while being able to play on max settings without stressing the GPU too much. If that's the case, wouldn't the 1070ti would be the better suited for me because it can handle 1080p max settings without stressing the GPU as much, compared to the 980ti?

@c00faceThose prices are good, it is just a matter of how flexible your budget is and what is the best you can afford. I do not know if you can wait till black Friday, I believe the 980ti should be fine at 1080p high detail in most games and the 1070ti should do better. Also consider the limit of your still great for now i5-4690k for the future, you may have to overclock to keep the the performance at the level you want in the future.

I don't know what is your current GPU, I thought it's rather Intel HD or some ancient Nvidia or AMD:)
P.S. Titan X is not that old (both 980ti and Titan X based on Maxwell architecture, specs below)image.png.4761365ec037c7e04a7071722ac8ae94.png

The GTX Titan X is a bit hard to find that is priced within c00face's budget, maybe if you buy multiple cards, but that still requires spending more money. The GTX 980 ti can be found for less than $200 if patient and checking the local Craigslist ads. Spending a little bit more money on a refurbished gpu may be worth it for the piece of mind because refurbished  GPUs usually come with a warranty, 90 days to 1 year depending on who it is bought from.
