Then what's the main difference between the X and non X?

The x has a higher TDP and without PBO a slightly higher boost clock.

Turn on PBO and they are the exact same CPU.

The x version also comes with a better stock cooler. (Not worth the extra)

Hi,

I currently have an i5-4670k which has been overclocked. However this CPU is lacking performance in most games like Battlefield 1 and Forza Horizon.

I'm looking to upgrade to a ryzen 5 3600x, but is this a worthy upgrade? I want it to be somewhat future proof and be able to multitask along my games (spotify/youtube).

The 3600X is around stock 8700K performance in most games, should be a great upgrade.

Lol

Higher stock clocks mainly. On the 1st and 2nd gen Ryzens it was a more aggressive boost too, on the current ones I think it's the same on either model. IIRC the non-X models are better too because you have more headroom to work with if you're into manually tweaking, they start at a 65W TDP for only slightly lower clocks than the 95W TDP X chips.

Get the non x and a better than stock cooler to hold the BPO boost. I bought the 3600x because it was one of the few in stock at Newegg on 7/7 at 7AM, the stock cooler on the x is junk and the non x is even smaller.
