2560x1440 VRAM

I recently upgraded to a 2560x1440 monitor and my GTX 570 is no longer cutting it. I am looking to go with a GTX 770, looking for opinions on if the 4GB version is worth it or not at 1440p.

If you want good 1440p a 770 with 2GB will cut it but i'd just recommend getting a 780 that way you can run them better. Usually the reason 4GB models are made is for SLI where 2GB is too little between two GPU's.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

Get a 780 or a 290 for 1440p. The 4GB GTX 770 is not very useful because only 3.2GB of VRAM will be utilized. A GTX 770 will make it to 1440p though. Although a 780 will provide better results if you are trying to max out all your games.

The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.

780 or 290, don't bother with a 4gb 770 unless your going to run 2 of them

At that resolution I reckon a 780 would be enough, its a strange balancing act between GPU power and VRAM at high resolution, the 4GB cards are great but only really come into play in multi-GPU setups or multi-screen gaming.

if it has to be a 770 then get the 4gb. other wise its very worth it to get the 780 for this resolution

I really don't see the need to go to a 780 or 290. The 780 is almost 50% more expensive than a 770 at this point. I am certain I will be happy with a 770, just curious if 2GB will bottleneck the card at 1440p. Sure a 780 or a 290 or SLI 780ti's will be much faster, I just decided to draw the line at the 770 lol. Appreciate the opinions though guys.

Depends on the games you're playing.

Recently I have been playing World of Tanks, Tomb Raider, and AC4. Periodically I go on big mmo kicks, but I'm not much of an FPS player.

4gb on a gtx770 is like the 2gb on my HD7770, you're going to be bandwidth limited if not gpu...

that said those games dont use a ton of vram depending on what settings you run as far as im aware (textures), test it in msi afterburner and see how much benefit you get from a memory oc, a gpu OC and both. if a memory oc is substancialy better your bandwidth limited, if not your probably gpu power limited.

you can spend the extra and get a gtx780 or 290 or maybe save some cash and get a r9-280x, 384bit bus and 3gb of vram could be a good option C.

Right now I am using a GTX 570 and memory usage is maxed out on that frequently, but that only has 1.28GB of memory. I am trying to stay under the $400 mark, 2GB 770 is about $340, 4GB is about $370, 280x is about $410, 780 is about $510, 290 is at least $540. I wanted to stick with Nvidia because I like some of the Geforce Experience features, and the built in video encoder. I am not entirely opposed to the 280x, but as far as I have seen, it performs about the same as the 770, little worse in some titles, little better in others, but it's a fair bit more expensive. The 780 and 290 are pushing up over $500 which is beyond where I am willing to go. So that's where I am at with it.

memory should be maxed out it seems (you havent turned it up enough if its not), the card has X amounts of vram, it will use as much as it has/needs.

the considering the gtx770 and r9-280x are so close (amd pulling out a minor lead at times) id say you wont be bottlenecked by the 2gb limit but if you can save a little more then it looks like a 780 will be able to give you allot more performance for a longer time.

A 770 would be great for 1080p, but at 1440p you'll be seeing sub 40fps on modern games. Like everyone suggested, grab a 780 and save yourself an upgrade in 6 months.

Yes, go with the 4GB variant at that resolution or get R9-290/780.

1440p is pretty much demanding at games. With the 770 the problem is not the vRAM, the horsepower is the problem. If you go for 1440p with the 770 you will have to tweak the games a lot.

If you are thinking going for a second 770 in the future then the 4GB model makes a lot of sense.

Luck!
