So my cousin asked if i could help him upgrading his PC. with a budget of absolutely maximum of €300 minus €13,21 shipping cost, so that would leave €286,79 as an absolute maximum. (he first said €250, then i asked his absolute max) Preferably bought at azerty.nl note1 (alternate.be and amazon.de could be an option too)

He said he wanted to run a bit heavier games. It could be bought somewhere AFTER 6 weeks

The specs i got from him:

EDIT - cpu = i7 2600 (non K ofc.) 3.4GHz (turbo to 3.8GHz)

- it is an HP

-mobo: PCIe 16x ( i quess its PCIe v2.0 )

2372bb879ddedfa493e98e708948f1bb.png

-GPU: amd HD7570

78edf9b37f34c29ac87ef76348f3272b.png

-RAM:2*4GB @ 1333MHz + 2 empty slots

688d20c9c2c4ffa0d0d10d233eddb55e.png

-psu 460W note2

notes

note1: azerty.nl links: GPU RAM (its in dutch as i live in belgium... i'm sorry)

note2: more info about his PSU as my cousin said it:

460W

12VC 10.0A

12VB 18.0A

12VA 15.0A

He also said all the amperages concluded to 360W

conclusion

I guess his cpu is quite good enough, but i dont think his GPU is. Maybe adding a single stick of ?random?1333MHz?4GB? RAM (idk if i have to look at timings, single/dual channel, etc... Also idk if he is a heavy multitasker, but i guess he could use an extra 4 gigs). i also guess an ssd wouldn't quite fit the budget.

Please help! ;)

Tbh I'm really confused reading all of this, I can see his GPU and yes its a little weak, his PSU is weak too, as for the CPU where about is this listed?

Also take a look at the older SATA2 SSDs, theres still a few around and if you can get hold of a 64GB one its enough for Windows and wont break the budget.

Plan later. Parts and prices change frequently and 6 weeks is a long while from now.

^this but with the caveat that id probably get something like a r9-270 or an r9-280x and a good power supply (corsair rm650w or something but im being generic minded), ram and board will be fine for high end gaming,if you wanna get him an ssd only get a 128 or preferably 256gb (double the space, faster writes but NOT double the price).

dont bother with 64gb ssd's the euro/performance/gb sucks.

Do you mean cheap new 64GB ssd, or second hand ones?

A new one, you do have to do some searching but every now and then good deals come up as retailers try to clear out stock, I got myself a 64GB OCZ Vertex 2 for my Dell L702X Laptop a while back, only cost me around 1/4 of what a brand new 128GB Sata 3 drive would cost, SATA 2 SSDs are great for people on a budget.

And yeah, don't buy second hand SSDs, not so much nowadays but SSDs have always been quite fragile, you never know what abuse a second hand one could have had, but no doubt you'll get less than new performance from it.

yeah, me to, but he asked for being able to run better games, not faster load times :P . Besides, it has to fit in the budget

I was thinking in this range as well, but isn't 650W a bit too much? would something like 550W 600W work to? (idk if he or his parents care about 80+ bronze/silver/gold/platinum/none label )

80+ Bronze/silver/gold etc is not an indicator of quality but is often associated with. If you buy a good, quality PSU, it's going to be 80+ bronze. If you buy a shit PSU though, it can still be 80+ bronze.

A solid 500w PSU (good quality) will power anything from Intel that isn't on 1366/2011 socket with anything GTX 780 and below, with room for overclocking both.

current r9 270x /280x prices in Belgium

also at this time of speaking, an r9 280x (starting at €260) and a PSU wouldn't fit in the €300 budget. Im guessing the prices won't drop that much in 6 weeks...

the R9 270X start at €155 and go up to €220 for the 2GB version at the time of speaking in Belgium (its a small country in europe).

I will see how the prices develop, and puzzle some more later ;)

theres no such thing as "too much" its not going to blow up with a 650w psu...

maybe itll be 5% less efficient during gaming and cost 80 cents a year extra to run (during load itll be at 45% load instead of 50%) but in the future you coudl rebuild the hp with tis original parts and use the same power supply in his first custom rig, not only that but he could then have the possibility of running a gtx780/ti or sli/crossfire without havign to get a new psu saving him money down the line..

and they should care, get 80+bronze minimum, if a manufacturer cant get bronze rated these days they arnt very good. golds better (saves money over time) wether its worth the extra cost or is even possible given the budget ill leave you to work out for yourself.

but going from 550w to 650w will just give him more flexability in the future, they're only a few bucks more. just stick to big names, corsair, seasonic, be quiet and stay away from brands that sound cheesy "ez-cool", "power-tech" etc.
