Touched GPU contacts?

Well I was building a pc in the thermaltake core v1 and I was having a hard time alligning the gpu in its slot. So I put my hand on the top and bottom of the gpu and slotted it in. I'm not sure if I touched the gold contacts on the gpu, but if I did would it hurt anything? I heard touching the contacts would corrode the part and interfere with contact

My gpu pcie lane says PCIe v3.0 x16 (8.0 GT/s) @ x8 (2.5 GT/s)  (When running 3dmark it says PCIe v3.0 x16 (8.0 GT/s) @ x8 (8.0 GT/s)

so im not sure if this is normal or if I screwed something up. PC works fine other than this slight concern.

You are 100% fine, I sometimes take the contacts of my GPU and thread them through my crack like a towel when Im drying off.

IT depends where you had your hands before... 

 

sweaty cheeto covered fingers... well yes that might harm the card.

 

As long as your hands were dry and clean not sweaty, then all should be fine. 

 

As why your PCIe x16 only runs at x8 there can be several issues like an nvme ssd installed in a certain slot...

My hands were a little sweaty. definitely not cheeto covered, no nvme ssd installed in my system

without knowing what kind of motherboard etc you got... (you know, usually it helps when asking for help to tell the peeps what hardware you got =P )

 

Could be a bios setting

Could be wrong pcie slot

Could be a lot of different things ?

Only 1 gpu slot, I just restarted my system and all the sudden it says its working at pcie 16. any reason why it would do this?

Due to still not knowing your components and the uranium powered batteries I ordered from Amazon for my crystall fortune telling ball still are in transit or out of stock, I can't tell you really more than already done... 

 

And I'm sorry, but I won't write down every reason why this could have happened. My life time isn't infinite =P

ryzen 2700x

ASUS STRIX B450-I

GTX 1070 ti from zotac

16gb of 3000mhz ram

500gb samsung ssd

and a RM750x

encased in a thermaltake core v1

at first what I already mentioned: 

 

- The M.2_2 slot shares with PCIE x16. When M.2_2 slot runs in PCIE mode, the PCIE x16 slot will run at x8 mode

 

- Else, the board could need some "reboots" to recognize the hardware correctly, some ASUS do that.

 

- Bios Settings for the PCIe Port

 

- Correct seating of the GPU

  (I had a machine where the case was a little misaligned, when putting the hardware in, no matter what gfx card, it would run, then closing it up, putting it on the ground was dragging the gfx card out of the slot a little, so no boot just beeping... this was then repaired due to getting a better case without any misalignements or bends in it (bad thing, it was wifey machine not mine) )

 

- Driver Issue

 

only to name a few ?

 

 

Due to your CPU having no integrated GFX a throtteling of the PCIe slot due to that is out of the question then.
