I'm currently using a t-mobile sim card in an netgear lb1120 router. My understanding is that t-mobile designates private ipv4 addresses which makes traditional ways of port forwarding through the router useless. How would I go about port forwarding in this situation?

T Mobile uses Carrier Grade NAT. So your kinda boned. Im not sure if a VPN solution would work, but speeds would not be great. At least at my home I get about 25 Mbps. However I have seen T Mobile speeds as high as 100 Mbps in other areas. But VPN's can and do slow down your internet speeds.

Gaming VPN? ?

Why do you need portforwarding?

AMD Ryzen 3950x under a Noctua D15S, 32 Gb G Skill FlareX 3200 DDR4 running at 3200 CL14, Gigabyte Aorus Pro 570 Wifi, Gigabyte 2070 Super hooked to a Dell U2718Q 4k HDR monitor & an Acer 1440p 144hz IPS panel of some kind, an Inland 1 TB M.2 PCIE 4 main drive, a Samsung NVME M.2 250Gb, WD Blue 500Gb  and 1 TB SSDs, Corsair RMX750, Rainbows and butterflies...

Alright so I'm boned in the port forwarding department. I've done some tinkering and figured out that I can use IPv6 to do what I need but I've hit a snag. When I connect my desktop directly to my lb1120 router IPv6 works perfectly and I can ping it from an outside connection. However, when I set up my network like this: lb1120 -> netgear r6400 -> desktop IPv6 no longer works. I've set up my R6400 IPv6 using automatic configuration but no dice.

IPv6 its a pain in the ass. There are multiple ways ISP's can set this type of connection up. You need to check to see if T Mobile published these settings some where.
