my mate keeps going on about cache on processors, and does it really matter. cause i know if you open a program it loads it to the cpu cache first.

Cache isn't as important these days. Yes, it does improve performance as the cache levels on the CPU are a lot faster than that of RAM and SSD performance. That being said, I don't feel that there would be a noticeable performance hit if you were using an SSD boot drive, as they improve system performance vastly generally.

The size of the cache isn't too important, as long as there is a cahce the principle of locality and the associated algoritims will do the work

In rendering and work stuff.  Yup. In games? Not so much past a certain point.

An example. In games where same thread count is used? I5=I7 even though the 4770k has more cache.

CPU:24/7-4770k @ 4.5ghz/4.0 cache @ 1.22V override, 1.776 VCCIN. MB: Z87-G41 PC Mate. Cooling: Hyper 212 evo push/pull. Ram: Gskill Ares 1600 CL9 @ 2133 1.56v 10-12-10-31-T1 150 TRFC. It doesn't do ANYTHING in terms of fps and performance in general. I've done tests myself. But what it can do is improve stability and enable you to hit higher clocks.

Ah so you just disabled a few megabytes cache? More cache memory doesnt improve overclocking anyways. It pretty much depends on the quality of the chip and the quality depends on a lot of factors when manufacturing.

It's just impossible for us to make any conclusions if we can't compare it.

Disable cache memory? What are you talking about? It's not about that. It's about lowering cache frequency!

Edit: Looks like you thought I was replying to the previous comment. Sorry I was off topic. I thought this subject was talking about cache frequency. My bad.
