Touch laptop $400 or less?

Go to solution Solved by Fasauceome,

Well, got myself a samsung chromebook for a huge discount for a back to school sale and student discount. Just like a big phone!

Previously I was looking in the sub $300 range for a touch screen laptop or 2 in 1 for note taking, but those models just lack the oomph, so I figured I'd go another $100 up and the value proposition is much better.

Right now I'm considering:

Small, folding touchscreen, SSD so that it won't break as easily when dropped, but lacks the pen my last laptop had. Is the surface pen universal to windows laptops?

Suggestions?

Criteria:

touchscreen display, folding for 2 in 1 function is really nice, pen is nice too

i3 processor or better, I had an Atom in my last laptop and it would often fail to open YouTube videos or slowly load webpages. Maybe a pentium depending on the model.

If you have a really good idea for a $450 model that really ticks all the boxes, I'm open to suggestions

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

You might find something better in the used market.

Honestly that looks like a pretty decent 2 in 1 for note taking if your're looking at sub $400 - $450, I personally would  make two changes if I got that acer spin though, I'd add/upgrade the ram to 8GB and then upgrade from the Windows 10S to Pro, just because W10S is super weird, and has lots of limitations. Or as the others said check the local used market.

Look at second hand options. The price point you are targeting is impossible.

Warranty for a daily driver like this is pretty important to me, the options I've seen around $400 are not so bad honestly.

Perhaps, 4GB is plenty for a video or word processing though so I'll have to see.

It should be, but sometimes especially if multitasking it can become a hindrance. I used a 2 in 1 model for my first semester of classes for taking notes/quizes etc. and I did notice sometimes when multitasking that it got pretty sluggish. However I'd have Spotify, Word, and google chrome with several tabs all going at once plus Windows 10 takes up about 2GB just on it's own. You can get another 4GB module for $20 or an 8GB module or kit for around $35. I just thought I'd suggest it.

What else will you be doing with it? If its just note taking and youtube an ipad and apple pencil would probably be better than a laptop in that price range. You might also be able to find a surface go in that price range if you need windows.

Used to have an iPad, switching to a 2 in 1 was a great swap for me. Plus, isn't the apple pencil really expensive or something? What would you suggest?

The one you found is probably the best unless one of the dell inspirons comes down in price a bit. The reason I recommend an ipad is that I personally had a good experience with note taking on it. With it being $249-299 now it just makes it a even better deal.
